Radioactive Waste Pile from U.S. Nuclear Weapons Program

In 1955 the Atomic Energy Commission built a uranium ore processing plant at the Weldon Spring site which was operated by Mallinckrodt Chemical Works of St. Louis. At the processing plant uranium ore was processed into "yellow cake" and shipped to other sites. The Weldon Spring Uranium Feed Mill Plant operated until 1966.
