Mackworth island hiking trail
High Resolution JPEG Picture of Mackworth Island Hiking Trail, Falmouth, Maine, right next to Portland, Maine. Nature preserve and bird sanctuary, there is a 1.25 mile hiking path around the trail. The island is not inhabited except for Baxter School for the Deaf, which is in the center of the island. You would never even know it was there as you hike around the 100 acre island with Casco Bay views all around. The island is also home to a pet cemetery and an enchanted fairy forrest which visitors are encouraged to build fairy houses on the forest floor in this section.
