The ground image shows Paterson Inlet from the Observation Rock viewpoint in Oban. The northern lights (aurora borealis) were photographed from the village of Hamn.
The southern lights (aurora australis) are sometimes visible from Rakiura Stewart Island. However, this photographer encountered overcast skies.
