Pink pelican pelecanus onocrotalus
High Resolution JPEG Picture of The pink pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) is a species of bird in the pelican family. Since the species breeds in large colonies on lakes and rivers or coastal islands and lagoons, breeding occurrences are very scattered. They range from southeastern Europe through Asia Minor to central Asia and the western edge of the Indian subcontinent, as well as throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Outside the breeding season, the species has a much wider distribution. The northern populations winter mainly in Africa, the Asian ones partly in Pakistan. In Africa, the species is a resident or migratory bird.
