An old British dog licence dated 1986, costing thirty seven pence and issued in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, on 30th January. Dog licensing in the UK was abolished in 1987, as many dog owners were failing to comply and the cost of the licence had not kept pace with the times. In the early days of dog licensing, the price of the licence was considerable but in 1987, when it was just 37 pence after decimalisation, it was almost worthless and the administration of the licence cost more than the revenue obtained from it.
