Crackling lake spans 05
High Resolution JPEG Picture of Crackling Lake spans about 0.5 acres. The lake is relatively young, having formed in the mid-20th century as a result of geothermal activity in the area. Its name was suggested by Ed Leigh in 1967 because of popping sounds from nearby springs on its southern shore. Previously it was called Spring #39. It's known for its acidic waters and distinctive crackling sounds caused by gas bubbles.
