During those years Elijah obeyed God, going where God commanded and doing what He commanded. God empowered Elijah to perform miracles. Elijah tried to convince people to believe in God and turn away from worshiping Baal. He was eventually successful and the people turned to God. Elijah and his friend, Elisha, went to Jericho. They had to cross the Jordan River. Elijah parted the waters with his cloak. After they crossed, Elisha watched as God took Elijah in a whirlwind of fire up to heaven.
