Fujairah Fort has long been the centerpiece of the city's and emirate's defenses - today it is one of the most important fortifications in the United Arab Emirates. If the origin of the fort of Fujairah remains vague, we know that it was occupied by the wahabbites between 1808 and 1810. It was abandoned in 1925 following the bombardment by the British navy, and it is only in 1997 the cultural authority of the emirate rediscovers its potential and decides to launch a three-year restoration programme.
