She is holding Ka Hae Hawaiʻi (Flag of Hawaii) in her right hand that is partly unfurled. Below the heraldic shield a phoenix bird with it wings outstretched arising from flames. The crest design is a rising sun. The state motto is: Ua Mau ke Ea o ka ʻĀina i ka Pono ("The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.").
