Pampelonne is a locality on the peninsula of Saint-Tropez, which gave its name to a 4.5 km sandy beach on the French coast, in the French maritime public domain, located in the town of Ramatuelle, in the Territoire Gulf of Saint-Tropez, in the Var department in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Bordering the town of Saint-Tropez, the beach of Pampelonne is a tourist hotspot frequently (and abusively) attached, especially in the press, to the “beaches of Saint-Tropez”. Geography 4.5 km long, spread over 27 ha of sand facing Pampelonne cove, Pampelonne beach is bounded to the south by Cap Camarat and Cap Bonne Terrasse, to the north by Cap Pinet and to the west by the Var vineyards, meadows, pine forests, campsites and luxury villas. Historical Cassini's map already indicated the beach of "Pampalaune"1 as well as numerous works of the 19th century2,3,4 also calling it "Pampelanne"5,6,7,8 or "Pampelune"9. This beach is one of the many landing beaches in Provence in August 1944. A track to get out of it was then dug by the American army, then used by local residents10.
