Porkchop Geyser's name derives from its pork chop-shaped sinter mound. Measuring around 2 feet in diameter, the geyser was once a tranquil hot spring until 1971 when it began erupting intermittently. In 1989, it experienced a violent hydrothermal explosion, scattering debris over 200 feet away and significantly altering its appearance.
