Tamar Street sign in Admiralty on Hong Kong Island. Although a short street, it is one of the most well known as having the same name as HMS Tamar, the British military base in Victoria Harbour until 30 June 1997. It was also the name of a British Navy ship stationed in Hong Kong during the colonial period until sunk in December 1941 to avoid it falling into the hands of the invading Japanese forces.
