This jewel is one of the finest examples of Poitevin Romanesque architecture. Built in the 12th century at the request of the canons of Poitiers, it has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1840 and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998 as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. The church is renowned for the richness of its sculpted decoration, representing symbolic figures from the Romanesque period. Its west façade, flanked by two lanterns, features a richly decorated central portal. The south portal also features numerous sculptures representing apostles, figures, and other animals. Located away from the village, the Saint-Pierre de la Tour church watches over the ancient tombs of a cemetery planted with yew trees. [2225389955] stock photo
