It is 20 years since the launch of the Euro Currency as the principal currency in Europe, with 12 countries adopting it as their currency and 308 million people. In that 20 year period there has been significant inflation affecting the world economies. With a base level of a 10 Euro Banknote, in 2002 the value would have been eroded with respect to purchasing the same goods and services in 2012 when the Purchasing Power of that banknote would then be valued at 8.3 Euros. A further 10 years later in 2022 the value has been eroded even further, when the Purchasing Power of that same 10 Euro banknote would now be valued at 6.8 Euros - with the Purchasing Power lost in just 20 years being in excess of 30 per cent.This demonstrates how important it is to invest wisely any spare cash - in an effort to counter the corrosive effect of inflation.
