The bronze statue of the world famous danish astrononmer Tycho Brahe, 1546-1601, was erected in 1876 in front of the Copenhagen University Astronomical Observatory. Tycho Brahe was key in establishing the foundation for modern cosmology with extremely accurate measurements of star and planet positions. Based on these observations, his pupil, Johannes Kepler, formulated the famous three laws describing the planetary movements in the solar system, and these laws were later used by Isaac Newton to establish his fundamental law of gravitation.
