The Wood of La Cambre is a natural extension of the Forest of Soignes in the city of Brussels, Belgium. The wood starts at the end of Avenue Louise, marked by two toll booths. The wood hosts the 'Chalet du Gymnase' and its ice and skating rink, the 'Chalet des Rossignols' and the 'Chalet Robinson' on the island of the same name. The Bois de la Cambre was designed in 1861 by the German architect Edouard Keilig. The style of the park is very English, a garden concept that originated in England at the beginning of the 18th century. These gardens try to imitate nature as closely as possible. The bushes and trees are planted in a very irregular way. Nowadays, the Bois de la Cambre is a green lung in Brussels and one of the favorite parks for leisure activities. It comprises a small lake with an island in the centre, called Robinson's island. After being destroyed by fire and closed for over 15 years, the chalet Robinson reopened as a Brasserie-Restaurant in 2009. [522240881] stock photo
